The Impact of Social Support on Quality of Life among Jordanian Cardiac Patients

Abstract:

Several studies identified the role of social support in improving patients’ outcomes. However few studies investigated the relationship between social support and quality of life in the developing countries. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between social support and quality of life among cardiac patients. A descriptive correlational study design was used. A structured interview with patients using a questionnaire was used in data collection. A convenience sample of 464 patients participated in this study from an educational hospital, a private hospital, and a governmental hospital. The findings revealed a significant relationship between social support and quality of life among cardiac patients.  Affectionate Tangible social support was found to have higher levels than emotional/ informational support and positive social interaction. According to levels of quality of life; role limitation has the highest level. Providing informational/emotional support could improve cardiac patients’ outcomes.
